A Saras fair was organised in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, with the objective of providing self-employment opportunities to rural women and a market for their products. The fair was inaugurated by the Divisional Commissioner. On the occasion, 10 self-help groups set up their stalls, where various locally made products are being sold.

The fair features displays ranging from pickles, spices and household food items to decorative goods and handmade articles. Through these stalls, women associated with self-help groups are taking their products directly to customers. This is giving them an opportunity to build recognition for their work and increase their income.

During the inauguration, the Divisional Commissioner inspected various stalls and sought information about the products made by the women. Appreciating the efforts of the self-help groups, he said such events play an important role in making rural women economically self-reliant and encouraging their skills.

Along with buying local products at the Saras fair, people are also getting an opportunity to learn about the art, skills and entrepreneurship of rural areas. Organisers hope the fair will help products made by self-help groups find a wider market and create new employment opportunities for women.
