CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Regional Science Centre, Bhopal organised various astronomy-based public awareness and educational activities till October 4, 2026, under the International Astronomical Union’s global “100 Hours of Astronomy” programme. The International Astronomical Union is the world’s leading international astronomical organisation, aimed at promoting research, education, communication and public awareness in various fields of astronomy through international cooperation, and at taking astronomy to as many people as possible.
Through global public participation programmes such as “100 Hours of Astronomy”, the Office for Astronomy Outreach of the International Astronomical Union seeks to connect people across the world with astronomy under a shared sky and to encourage curiosity about the universe and a scientific outlook. In 2026, “100 Hours of Astronomy” was organised globally till October 4, with the theme “A New View of Our Solar System”. The objective of this global initiative is to connect the general public, students and science enthusiasts with astronomy, develop an understanding of our solar system and the universe, and promote science education and scientific curiosity.
As part of this global initiative, the Regional Science Centre, Bhopal organised several interesting and informative activities. These mainly included an open house quiz, a special gallery tour of the Hall of Space Exploration, a rocketry demonstration and an online astronomy quiz.
Through the special gallery tour of the Hall of Space Exploration, students and visitors got an opportunity to learn and understand India’s space journey, achievements in space science and technology, and various scientific concepts related to the solar system and the universe. Through the rocketry demonstration, students were explained in a simple and engaging manner the basic principles of how rockets work, propulsion and scientific concepts related to space launches.
Students and members of the public participated enthusiastically in the open house quiz and online quiz held during the programme. These activities gave participants an opportunity to test their knowledge related to astronomy as well as gain new scientific information. A large number of students, teachers, families and general visitors took part enthusiastically in all these programmes.
Through these programmes, the Regional Science Centre, Bhopal, while joining the global “100 Hours of Astronomy” initiative, made an effort to take astronomy to the general public and, in particular, to develop interest in space science and a scientific outlook among the younger generation. The Regional Science Centre, Bhopal will continue to organise such interactive, educational and public awareness programmes in the future to connect students and the general public with science and technology and to encourage scientific thinking.
