CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: New Delhi. The 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics will be announced today, October 6. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences will announce the award in Stockholm. The announcement is expected at around 3:15 pm Indian time. It will be the second prize of this year under Nobel Week.
There is considerable discussion in the scientific community over the possible fields that may be recognised this time. Scientists who have made significant contributions in metamaterials, graphene, quantum technology, condensed matter physics and other emerging areas are being discussed. However, the Nobel Committee has not officially released any name or list of potential winners. Therefore, these names are being seen only as possible contenders.
The Nobel Prize will be announced after the decision of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. The prize can be shared by a maximum of three scientists. The winners will receive a medal and certificate along with prize money of 1.2 crore Swedish kronor this year. The amount has been increased from last year’s 1.1 crore kronor. After the Physics Nobel, the Chemistry prize will be announced on October 7, Literature on October 8 and the Peace Prize on October 9. The prize in Economic Sciences will be announced on October 12. Today’s announcement will make clear which discovery or invention in physics has been considered an important contribution to humanity in 2026.
