CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Delhi: New Delhi. To keep the security arrangement strengthened in the national capital Delhi, the central government has extended the deployment of 270 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) until November 16, 2026. These companies include about 27,000 personnel. The Ministry of Home Affairs took the decision on a request from Delhi Police. This is the third time this month that the deployment period of these security forces has been extended.
The key reasons cited for extending the deployment include the INDIA alliance rally scheduled at Ramlila Maidan on November 1, apprehensions of sudden protests by some organisations, and maintaining law and order during festivals. The Congress has called a “Chalo Delhi March” under the banner of the INDIA alliance over alleged vote theft and irregularities in the voter list. The march will conclude with a rally at Ramlila Maidan.
The 270 companies deployed in Delhi include 125 companies of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), including 17 women’s units. In addition, 46 companies of the Border Security Force (BSF), 39 of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), 31 of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), 20 of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) and 12 of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) will remain deployed.
The sanctioned strength of one CAPF company is 100 personnel, but its actual operational strength is around 70 to 72 personnel. Delhi Police has been assigned responsibility for the deployment and coordination of these forces.
Earlier, at the beginning of October, these forces were called to Delhi after protests by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). The organisation had demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list. In view of the upcoming rally and festivals, security arrangements in the capital will continue to remain tight.
