CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Demands among central government employees over the fitment factor and dearness allowance have intensified ahead of the 8th Central Pay Commission. Employee organisations have placed different proposals before the commission for salary revision, including a demand for a 3.5 fitment factor.

The fitment factor is the multiplier used to revise the existing basic pay and fix it under the new pay structure. Under the 7th Pay Commission, a fitment factor of 2.57 was implemented. This time, some employee organisations are demanding a much higher fitment factor. Some organisations, including the National Council-Joint Consultative Machinery (NC-JCM), have proposed a minimum basic pay of ₹69,000 and a fitment factor of 3.833. The Indian Railway Technical Supervisors Association (IRTSA) has suggested separate fitment factors for different pay levels. In its proposal, it has sought a multiplier of 3.50 for levels 6 to 8 and higher multipliers for higher levels.

Employees are also watching the next revision of dearness allowance closely. The central government had increased DA for central employees from 58% to 60% from January 2026. Under the 8th Pay Commission, the final fitment factor and changes in pay and allowances will be decided on the basis of the commission’s recommendations and subsequent approval by the government.
