New Delhi: Police have arrested a 26-year-old man in Delhi’s Shahdara district during action against the sale of illegal firecrackers. Around 312 kilograms of illegal firecrackers were recovered from the accused’s house. What surprised police was that he had hidden the firecrackers inside a cupboard and a double bed so that no one would find out.
The arrested accused has been identified as Harshit Mittal, a resident of Balbir Nagar. According to police, the Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Shahdara district received information on November 3 that the accused was illegally selling firecrackers from his house. After this, a police team began surveillance in the area and reached the accused by posing as customers. The team raided his house while he was preparing for a sale.
During the search, a large quantity of firecrackers was found hidden inside the cupboard and double bed. Police seized a total of 311.97 kilograms of firecrackers. According to officials, the recovered firecrackers were not green firecrackers. The accused worked as a daily-wage employee at a restaurant. During questioning, he allegedly said he was selling the firecrackers at higher prices to make quick money.
A case has been registered at Shahdara police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Explosives Act. Police are now trying to find out from where the accused purchased the firecrackers and whether others were also involved in the illegal trade.
