CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Important details on player injuries in the Indian cricket team have emerged in the annual report of the Centre of Excellence (COE). According to the report, 32 top Indian cricketers required rehabilitation because of injuries. The findings have renewed focus on player fitness, workload management and the process of recovery from injuries.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been making continuous efforts to provide players with better medical facilities and scientific training. The report also mentions an increase in the COE budget, which is stated to have risen to around Rs 127 crore. The expenditure is aimed at strengthening facilities linked to treatment of player injuries, rehabilitation, fitness and performance improvement.
Maintaining player fitness has become a major challenge because of the busy international cricket schedule, constant travel and the pressure of playing across all three formats. The impact of workload is seen particularly on fast bowlers and players who regularly feature in all formats.
Player availability being affected by injuries can also have an impact on team combinations and preparations for upcoming series. In this situation, the COE’s role is not limited to treatment after injuries, but is also important in injury prevention, fitness monitoring and ensuring players return at the right time.
