CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Delhi: New Delhi, October 10. Police have tightened security in Delhi ahead of a proposed protest by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). Amid plans to hold a demonstration at Jantar Mantar, reports said several protesters were detained during police action. However, the reported figure of 500 protesters being detained could not be independently confirmed from the available reports.

The CJP had called the protest over issues linked to the special intensive revision of the voter list and to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Police had denied permission for the protest, citing law-and-order and security reasons. Despite this, the organisation’s leaders said they would continue the agitation.

In view of the protest, barricading has been put in place in several parts of the capital and security forces have been deployed on key routes. Police personnel have been deployed with body-worn cameras. Entry and exit gates at some Metro stations have also been closed. In addition, mobile internet services have been temporarily restricted in some parts of New Delhi.

Amid the police action, efforts are being made to stop protesters from reaching Jantar Mantar. The administration’s objective is to maintain law and order, while the protesters remain firm on holding their agitation over their demands.
