CNN Central News and Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has said that infrastructure development in Madhya Pradesh is being taken forward with environmental sensitivity and the concept of long-term sustainable development. The state government’s priority, he said, is to build a modern road and transport network while also conserving natural resources and promoting green growth. Chief Minister Yadav said the Ayodhya Bypass project is an example of this approach, where development and environmental protection have been given equal importance.

Chief Minister Yadav said that to compensate for the felling of 7,871 trees during the project, nearly 10 times more saplings, or about 80,000, will be planted. Around 10,000 saplings will be planted on both sides of the Ayodhya Bypass and the stretch will be developed as a green corridor. He said the initiative will not only strengthen environmental balance but also give a new dimension to the natural beauty of the area.

He said the state government’s goal is not merely to build better road infrastructure, but to promote development projects that also meet environmental conservation objectives along with economic progress. He expressed confidence that the Ayodhya Bypass project would emerge as a model of sustainable and inclusive development in the state and play an important role in ensuring a clean, safe and green environment for future generations.

To translate Chief Minister Dr. Yadav’s vision on the ground, the state government is regularly reviewing various aspects of the project. In this sequence, Chief Secretary Anurag Jain reviewed the progress of major national highway projects in the state with senior officials of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and the National Highways Authority of India at the Chief Secretary’s office.

Reviewing the status of construction, upgradation and expansion of national highways, Chief Secretary Jain directed officials to complete the projects within the prescribed timeline and in accordance with high quality standards. During the review, the widening of Bhopal’s important Ayodhya Bypass project was discussed in detail. Officials informed the meeting that the current design capacity of the Ayodhya Bypass is about 40,000 vehicles per day, while nearly 45,000 vehicles are currently using the route every day. Due to rapid urbanisation in Bhopal and the development of new residential areas nearby, traffic pressure is continuously increasing. In such a situation, widening the bypass is necessary not only from the point of view of traffic management and road safety, but also to meet the future needs of the capital region.

A balanced model of development and environmental protection has been prepared under the Ayodhya Bypass project in line with the Chief Minister’s vision. To compensate for the felling of 7,871 trees, about 80,000 saplings will be planted. Of these, around 10,000 saplings will be planted on both sides of the Ayodhya Bypass, helping the route develop into an attractive and environment-friendly green corridor in the future. In addition, preparations have been completed for plantation of around 70,000 saplings in the Jhirniya and Jhagaria Khurd areas. This large plantation drive, proposed in the coming monsoon, is expected to play an important role in expanding green cover in the Bhopal region and strengthening environmental balance.

Responsibility for protection, care and maintenance of the saplings for the next 15 years will be borne by the NHAI. For this, a provision of about Rs 20 crore has been made. The initiative is an example of how modern infrastructure construction and environmental responsibility can complement each other.

Chief Secretary Jain also reviewed preparations being made under the Ayodhya Bypass project to ensure that Bhopal’s drinking water supply remains uninterrupted. He was informed that a work plan has been prepared through continuous coordination between the NHAI and the Bhopal Municipal Corporation. Under this plan, all technical works, including pipeline shifting, will be carried out in phases. With the work being executed under the supervision of technical officers of the Municipal Corporation, it will be ensured that citizens do not face any inconvenience related to drinking water supply during implementation of the project.

The meeting was informed that through effective implementation of national highway projects in the state by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and the NHAI, fresh momentum is being given to regional connectivity, economic activity, investment, tourism and industrial development. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yadav, Madhya Pradesh is moving rapidly toward building modern, safe and environment-friendly transport infrastructure.
