CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Under the Jal Ganga Conservation Campaign – 2026 in Bhopal district, extensive efforts are being carried out for the conservation, augmentation, and rejuvenation of water sources. As part of the campaign, the rejuvenation of major rivers in the district—including the Ajnal River, Halali River, Patra, Kerwa River, and other rivers—has been initiated on a priority basis.
To ensure the continuous flow of these rivers, connected sources such as drains and ponds are being identified. Their waste weirs (outlet points) are being repaired and reconnected to the main river streams. This initiative will not only help in water conservation but also play a significant role in increasing groundwater levels. All these works are being effectively carried out under the guidance of the District Collector, Chief Executive Officer of the District Panchayat, and local MLAs.
Key Dimensions of the Campaign:
Rainwater harvesting and enhancement of groundwater levels
Rejuvenation of dried and encroached water sources
Cleaning and deepening of ponds, stepwells, and drains at the Gram Panchayat level
Public participation through voluntary labor (shramdaan), with active involvement of self-help groups, youth, school children, and public representatives
Under the campaign, residents of the district have been urged to actively participate in this public movement and contribute to the success of this important water conservation initiative.
