CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Under the guidance of Executive Professor Ajay Singh, the Department of Pediatrics at AIIMS, in collaboration with the Happiness Center and CanKids-Kidscan, organized a Parent Support Group meeting as part of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. The objective of the meeting was to provide emotional and practical support to parents of children battling cancer, allowing them to share their concerns and receive guidance on adopting a positive approach in caring for their child.
Professor Ajay Singh, appreciating the efforts, said, “At AIIMS, we understand the challenges faced by families dealing with childhood cancer. Through awareness programs and support group meetings, we strive to equip parents with the necessary knowledge and emotional strength. With positive thinking and proper medical care, this battle can be fought. I commend the relentless efforts of the Pediatrics Department and their collaborators, who have made significant contributions in this direction.”
Dr. Ruchi Rai from the Happiness Center emphasized the importance of parents taking care of themselves alongside their child’s care. She mentioned that parents staying happy and positive aids in the child’s recovery. Dr. Rai advised reducing screen time and involving children in creative activities such as drawing or crafting.
Dr. Ritu Sharma from the Reiki Foundation suggested that parents maintain a positive outlook and read inspiring stories. She also mentioned that parents should accept the child’s diagnosis and treatment to help maintain their confidence.
During the meeting, parents raised questions related to their children’s treatment, which were addressed by Prof. Girish Bhatt and Prof. Bhavana Dhingra. Dr. Narendra Chaudhary encouraged parents to support each other regarding issues such as counseling, daily care, and arranging blood donations.
