CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: On the occasion of World Earth Day, a program was organized at Bhoj Open University in Madhya Pradesh. Shri Lokendra Thakkar, Coordinator of the Climate Change State Knowledge Management Centre, Department of Environment, Government of Madhya Pradesh, was present as the keynote speaker at the event. The program was chaired by Sanjay Tiwari, the Chancellor of Bhoj Open University, and Sushil Mandreya, the Coordinator of the University, served as the program coordinator.

The main objective of this program, held on the occasion of World Earth Day, is to curb the increasing climate pollution on Earth. Whether it’s polythene or any other item related to plastic, our effort should be to gradually reduce its use, even if we can’t completely eliminate it from society and the environment. In this context, today’s discussion was centered around “Planet and Plastic.”

While addressing the audience during the program, Sushil Mandreya, Secretary of Bhoj Open University, expressed his views, stating that the nature we received was well-balanced, but we have caused considerable harm to it. Farmers are the true servants of Mother Earth. Urbanization is continuously causing damage to the Earth. Arable land is shrinking due to urbanization. The decrease in greenery is increasing the Earth’s temperature.

Our glaciers are melting, and desertification is increasing continuously. Excessive extraction of groundwater is leading to a shortage of moisture in the soil, resulting in the destruction of microorganisms essential for agriculture. Our agriculture is suffering as a result. The continuous extraction of mineral resources is causing the Earth’s temperature to rise continuously, resulting in constant damage to our planet. Dr. Mandreya also stated that the Western Ghats of India are experiencing adverse effects on the monsoon cycle due to excessive mineral extraction. Large dams are not good for the environment, and they are adversely affecting the Earth.

Hemant Singh Keswala, Associate Professor of the Department of Mass Communication, also shared his thoughts during the program, stating that developed countries contribute the most to environmental damage. The contribution of developing countries in this regard is very minimal. He said that urban people contribute more to environmental damage than rural people. In Indian culture, various types of plants and wildlife are worshipped. But due to urbanization, we are increasingly moving away from nature.

The program was conducted by Dr. Sadhana Singh Bisin, Senior Adviser to Bhoj Open University, and Sushil Kumar Dubey, Director of the IT Department, expressed gratitude. Employees, teachers, officers, and students of Bhoj Open University were present at the event.
