CNN Central News and Network – ITDC India ePress / ITDC News Bhopal: A special lecture on “Opportunities and Challenges Before Women Journalists” was organized by the Department of Electronic Media at Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication. The lecture, held at the Swami Vivekananda Auditorium, was presided over by the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. K.G. Suresh, with Prof. Dr. Sangeeta Pranvendra from IIMC serving as the chief guest and keynote speaker.

In his address, Prof. Suresh highlighted various challenges faced by women journalists, noting their significant achievements across different fields. He encouraged media students at the university to practice journalism with freedom and emphasized that women would advance in journalism due to their commitment. He urged students to gain both theoretical and practical knowledge, suggesting they visit the university’s MCU TV Darshan Studio and Radio Karmveer for practical experience.

Prof. Dr. Sangeeta Pranvendra from the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, New Delhi, stated that what is seen in the studio is not the real world. She emphasized that the purpose of journalism should be to report news, not to become news. She advised that women journalists need to be as courageous as a lion to remain in the field, citing the increasing trolling of female journalists as a current challenge. Prof. Pranvendra pointed out that balancing family responsibilities with work is a significant challenge for female journalists and highlighted that journalism is a profession where people have high expectations.

She also shared her thoughts on gender balance, stressing that journalists should approach every news story with a holistic perspective. The special lecture was conducted by student Geetanjali, and Dr. Garima Patel expressed the vote of thanks. The event was attended by several faculty members from the Department of Electronic Media, including Prof. Rahul Khadiya, Mukesh Chaurase, Dr. Manoj Patel, Dr. Ramdeen Tyagi, Priyanka Sonkar, Dr. Arun Khobre, guest scholars, and a large number of students.
