CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A two-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) program on the theme “Omics for Clinic – A Precision Medicine Primer” was inaugurated at AIIMS. The program was opened by Executive Professor Ajay Singh, who highlighted the transformative potential of precision medicine in healthcare. He stated, “Precision medicine can be a game-changer in the field of healthcare. There is a need for extensive research in this area to provide more effective treatment for patients. To achieve rapid and effective outcomes, we must better understand the patient’s DNA. Additionally, we should collaborate with various medical institutions to ensure that precision medicine reaches a larger segment of the population. Several research studies on precision medicine are currently underway abroad, and AIIMS is playing a leading role in these studies in India.”
During the CME, discussions will focus on the role of precision medicine in achieving better outcomes in pharmacogenomics, oncology, mental health, and long-term metabolic diseases. Researchers and experts from both India and abroad will share their experiences and insights. The research in precision medicine will involve studying over 600,000 human genes to develop precise treatment plans for patients.
Dr. Debasis Biswas, head of the Precision Medicine Center at AIIMS, emphasized, “Precision medicine differs from traditional medical approaches and provides more targeted and effective treatment. This CME will be a significant step in enhancing the understanding and application of precision medicine in medical practice.”
