CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: In the Baran Municipal Council election in Rajasthan, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has delivered a major political upset, ending the Congress party’s nearly 15-year-old dominance. AAP won 31 of the total 60 wards, securing a clear majority. With this, the way has been cleared for AAP to form its board in Baran for the first time.

In the election results, Congress won 18 wards, while the BJP secured only 9. AAP’s success is being seen in connection with the party’s growing presence as a third option between Rajasthan’s traditional BJP-Congress politics.

AAP’s victory in Baran is being attributed as significant to the party’s local organisation and strategy. According to reports, the role of party strategist Kamal Rathore is also being discussed. AAP securing a majority in an area long influenced by Congress is being seen as a major political message for the party.

The results of these local body elections in Rajasthan are being viewed as important signals for political parties ahead of the 2028 Assembly elections. The Baran result has emerged as a challenge for Congress and an opportunity for AAP to expand in the state.
