CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: New Delhi. Delhi Police has clarified, amid questions over the arrest and whereabouts of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke, that he was arrested as part of preventive action in view of apprehensions of a breach of peace. According to reports that emerged on 17 October 2026, police were preparing to produce him before a Special Executive Magistrate. Meanwhile, the party expressed concern that it had not received information about his whereabouts and legal status during custody.
Action before Tricolour march
The matter is linked to the proposed “Lahara Do Tiranga” (Wave the Tricolour) march at Central Park in Delhi’s Connaught Place. The march was to be organised to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Before the protest, police detained several people, including Abhijeet Dipke and All India Students’ Association (AISA) president Neha Bora.
According to Delhi Police, Dipke had been served two notices directing him not to go to the protest site. Police claimed that action was taken because the directions were not followed and there was an apprehension of a breach of peace. In Dipke’s case, police said action was taken under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
CJP seeks information on whereabouts
CJP alleged that contact with Dipke was lost after he was taken into custody. The party said its leaders and lawyers were not being informed about which police station or centre he had been kept at. It demanded that police provide information about his current location, the legal basis of his custody and the officers responsible.
Party leaders also questioned why action was taken against a person who was preparing to join a march carrying the national flag. Police, on the other hand, described their action as a step taken to maintain law and order.
Neha Bora released
AISA president Neha Bora, who was detained in the same matter, was released after the necessary formalities were completed. The organisation alleged that she was taken to several places during custody and that clear information about her status was not provided for a long time. Lawyers later met her at RK Puram police station.
Preparation to produce before magistrate
According to reports, police had said Dipke would be produced before a Special Executive Magistrate. Police could also raise the issue of alleged violation of the conditions of a peace bond furnished during earlier preventive action. However, the police allegations and CJP’s objections are claims made by different sides; the final determination of the legal position in the matter will be made according to the process of the competent authority.
