The 164th birth anniversary of Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the Regional Science Centre, Bhopal, under the theme “Ray of Chemistry: Discover, Experiment, Get Inspired.”

On the first day of the event, several engaging and educational activities were organized for students to pay tribute to the scientific legacy of Acharya Ray and to spark interest in chemistry among the youth.
The program commenced with an interactive session led by Dr. Amit Paul from IISER Bhopal. He spoke to the students about innovation in science, recent advancements in chemistry, and the inspiring life story of Indian scientists like Acharya Ray. The students participated enthusiastically and asked many thought-provoking questions.

Following this, the centre presented a live chemistry demonstration titled “Chemical Curiosity.” This science show was full of fascinating experiments that showcased the exciting side of chemistry, captivating both students and the general public.
In addition, a documentary film based on the life and works of Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray was screened. The film highlighted his contributions as a renowned chemist, educator, and founder of India’s first indigenous pharmaceutical company—Bengal Chemicals.

The aim of the event was to inspire students to pursue careers in the field of chemistry and familiarize them with Ray’s contributions to the Indian chemical industry.
The upcoming sessions of the celebration will include more educational activities aimed at promoting scientific thinking and paying tribute to this great scientist.
