CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: The health department in Uttar Pradesh has taken action against an Additional Chief Medical Officer (ACMO) facing allegations of demanding a bribe. His administrative charge has been withdrawn. It is alleged that the officer was bargaining to get a sealed hospital allowed to operate again. After the matter came to light, the state’s Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister took cognisance of it.
According to reports, a sting operation showed the ACMO speaking to the hospital operator and allegedly demanding a bribe. The hospital had earlier been sealed due to irregularities. It is alleged that the officer was discussing a financial transaction in return for getting the hospital reopened and securing permission for its operation.
After receiving information about the matter, the Deputy Chief Minister sought a report from the officials concerned and directed action. A decision was then taken to withdraw the ACMO’s charge. The health department is now investigating the entire case so that the veracity of the allegations and the role of others involved can be clarified.
The action has created a stir in the health department. Officials have been directed to ensure transparency in procedures related to inspection of hospitals, sealing and permission for resumption of operations. Further departmental action will be decided after the findings of the inquiry come out.
