CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Delhi: New Delhi: The Home Ministry has suspended ACP Manasvi Vashisht, who had joined a protest outside the Delhi Police headquarters against his transfer. News of his suspension emerged on Tuesday. According to police sources, the action was taken after he led a protest by police personnel on Monday. However, no detailed official statement on the matter was immediately issued by Delhi Police.

On Monday, a large number of police personnel gathered outside the police headquarters to protest the transfers of ACP Manasvi Vashisht and the then SHO of Shahdara police station, Inspector Arun Kumar. Initially, about 100 police personnel assembled, while the number of those joining the protest and meeting later rose to around 500. The protesters had sought a meeting with the police commissioner to present their issues and demand reconsideration of the transfers.

The controversy began after a clash between police personnel and lawyers at Shahdara police station on October 23. In the incident, an advocate suffered a serious head injury. Lawyers then staged protests and went on strike. On October 28, ACP Vashisht and Inspector Arun Kumar were transferred.

During the protest, police personnel demanded a clear mechanism to safeguard the dignity and security of the police force and to address grievances. In the meeting with the police commissioner, several issues were discussed, including a grievance redressal mechanism and the formation of a joint committee for coordination with lawyers.

After the ACP’s suspension, the already ongoing dispute between the police department and lawyers has taken a new turn.
