Ahead of Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh’s concert scheduled in Indore on November 15, the administration has directed that four of his popular songs not be performed. Following a complaint by Chandigarh professor Dr. Panditrao Dharennavar, the district child protection officer issued a letter to C-21 Mall management on November 6. The organisers have been asked to ensure that the four songs are not presented in any form during the programme.

The barred songs include “Patiala Peg”, “5 Taara Theke”, “Jeb Vichon Labhiya” and “Jatt Uthe Fire Karda Jithe Pabandi Hathiyaran Di”. The complainant objected to the lyrics of these songs, saying they carry messages that promote alcohol, drugs and weapons, which could have an adverse impact on children.

High Court order cited

In the letter, the district child protection officer referred to the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s order of July 22, 2019. Since children above five years of age are also permitted entry to the Indore concert, the organisers have been asked to follow the directions while keeping children’s interests in mind.

In his complaint, the professor had also sought that the four songs not be performed even with altered lyrics. He had also objected to children being called on stage and to the singer wearing a decorative belt resembling cartridges on stage. However, the official letter issued on November 6 has, for now, directed only that the performance of the four songs be stopped.

Diljit’s Indore concert is scheduled to be held at C-21 Mall on November 15. The organisers will have to comply with the administration’s directions during the programme.
