Bhopal: CNN Central News and Network–ITDC India ePress / ITDC News Bhopal: Modern technologies are now part of everyday life, and all of them are based on evolving technological tools. No field remains untouched by these changing dimensions, including the media. Keeping this change at the centre, Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication has taken a significant step in the field of media education by launching new courses related to Artificial Intelligence.
The admission process has started in MCU’s Department of Media Research for two new AI-based courses—M.Sc. (AI-Driven Media) and PG Diploma in AI-Driven Media (PGAIM). The objective is to prepare students in line with the growing use of AI technologies in media. With this vision, the courses have been designed to be completely practical-based.
According to C.P. Agrawal, Head of the Department of Media Research, these courses are meant for students who want to study AI technology in depth along with media and build a career in this field. He said that along with theoretical knowledge of media, special attention will be given to practical skill development. Students will receive hands-on training in 50 modern tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Python, DaVinci Resolve, NotebookLM, Google Pinpoint and CapCut AI. This will help them gain expertise in areas such as newsroom automation, data journalism, deepfake detection and AI-based digital marketing. To ensure that students are fully industry-ready, the courses carry an intensive workload of 120 credits.
AI-driven media is developing rapidly today. It is also the media of the future, in which greater proficiency over time is essential. In view of the need to keep oneself updated with changing technologies every day, students are showing keen interest in taking admission to these courses.
The courses being offered at MCU include a one-year PG Diploma in AI-Driven Media and a two-year full-time postgraduate programme, M.Sc. (AI-Driven Media). After completing the one-year PG Diploma in AI-Driven Media, students can upgrade it in the second year to M.Sc. (AI-Driven Media). Through these courses, students can build careers in areas such as AI Media Product Manager, Newsroom AI Lead, Data Journalist and Fact-Checker. Those working in this sector also receive good salaries in the industry. There is heavy demand in the market for experts in these fields, where even the starting salary package is quite attractive.
Each course has 20 seats. Graduates from any discipline can apply for admission. The last date to apply is June 16, 2026. For more information and online application, candidates can visit the university website, mcu.ac.in.
