Janata Congress Chhattisgarh leader Amit Jogi has reacted after an FIR was registered in Chhattisgarh. He said he is not an absconder, but is under the protection of Gujarat Police. Jogi alleged that his mother and wife had been insulted in the entire matter. He also questioned the move to give a sarcastic remark the form of a communal offence and described it as an attack on democracy.
Amit Jogi said the way his statement is being presented raises serious questions linked to freedom of expression and the democratic system. He said it is not appropriate to present satire as a communal offence. He also expressed anger over family members being targeted in this episode.
After the FIR was registered, Jogi publicly put forward his position on the allegations being made against him and on the police action. He clarified that he is not absconding and is under the protection of Gujarat Police.
