CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Agra. A recommendation has been made to conduct repolling at three polling centres after complaints of alleged irregularities in the Agra teachers’ MLC election in Uttar Pradesh. Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate Dr Akash Agarwal had alleged irregularities and booth capturing during polling. Following the complaints, the returning officer has sent a proposal to the Election Commission of India for repolling at three centres. However, a final decision on repolling will be taken only after the Commission’s approval.

The proposal recommending repolling includes the following polling centres in Agra district: booth number 20: tehsil premises, Kheragarh, room number 1; booth number 21: Kshetra Panchayat office, Saiyan, room number 1; booth number 26: Kshetra Panchayat office, Fatehabad, room number 1.

Repolling has been recommended on the basis of complaints that surfaced during voting at these centres. The proposal has been sent to the Election Commission of India through Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa. SP candidate Dr Akash Agarwal had become emotional while lodging his complaint. He alleged that supporters of the BJP candidate were involved in booth capturing and irregularities during polling. He claimed that his supporters and school managers were harassed at some places. Agarwal, who had gone to meet the divisional commissioner with his complaint, became emotional while speaking to the media.

He questioned the election process and demanded that free and fair voting be ensured. However, his allegations have not been independently confirmed, and the findings of investigations into the related matters are still awaited. Polling for five graduates’ and six teachers’ constituencies of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council was held on October 23. Voting took place from 8 am to 4 pm. After the recommendation for repolling in the Agra teachers’ constituency, attention is now on the Election Commission’s decision. If the Commission approves the proposal, repolling will be held at the three centres concerned. The counting and result process will also proceed according to the Commission’s directions.
