Ahmedabad University has announced the launch of a Master of Science (MSc) programme in Health Data Science to address complex problems linked to health services and public health. The two-year programme, run by the university’s Bagchi School of Public Health, will train students by bringing together health sciences, statistics, computing and artificial intelligence. According to the university’s official announcement, the first batch of the programme will begin on July 1, 2027.
The curriculum will integrate health and technology. Students will study subjects related to analysis of health data, machine learning, deep learning, study of medical images, analysis of biological data and health information systems. The programme will also focus on responsible artificial intelligence, data privacy and ethical use.
The programme structure includes academic study in the first year and a one-year guided industrial internship in the second year. For eligibility, a minimum of 55 percent marks or an equivalent CGPA in a recognised undergraduate degree is required. Relaxations may apply as per the relevant rules. Graduates from various disciplines, including statistics, mathematics, computer science, biology, bioinformatics, engineering and public health, can apply.
The programme aims to develop opportunities for students in hospitals, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, digital health institutions, research organisations, government agencies and public health-related fields. With the growing use of digital records, medical devices and artificial intelligence in health services, the role of such specialists may become significant.
According to the university’s website, the application process for the 2027 batch has begun. The last date for applications in the first phase has been set as March 7, 2027. The total tuition fee for the two-year programme is Rs 4 lakh.
