CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal  /  Raipur : A unique attempt to showcase innovation during Ganesh Chaturthi in Raipur has turned into controversy after AI-crafted doll-like Ganesha idols were displayed at a local pandal. The modern, glossy idols, created using artificial intelligence-based 3D design, drew sharp criticism from devotees who alleged that the representation was disrespectful and against traditional religious sentiments.

Protesters gathered outside the pandal, demanding the immediate removal of the idols. Several Hindu organizations claimed that the AI-generated Ganesha looked more like a toy doll than a revered deity, sparking outrage on social media as well.

Following growing tensions, local police intervened, and an FIR was registered against the organizers under sections related to hurting religious sentiments. Authorities stated that they are investigating the matter to ensure peace in the city.

The organizers defended themselves by saying the idea was to merge tradition with modern technology to attract youth. “Our intention was never to hurt anyone’s belief. We wanted to show how AI can be used in creative arts,” one committee member said.

This incident has opened a wider debate on the role of artificial intelligence in religious art and traditions. While some argue that innovation is necessary to engage future generations, others believe faith-based practices should remain untouched by experimental technologies.

Raipur police have urged citizens to maintain peace during the festivities, assuring strict action if communal harmony is disturbed. The idols have reportedly been removed from public display to avoid further escalation.
