CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Many believe that in the coming times, AI will impact our society and daily life. In reality, AI has already established its presence among us and continues to update itself daily. Whenever a new technology emerges, it brings both opportunities and challenges. While AI has made many tasks easier, it has also introduced new challenges. For instance, in the media industry, newsrooms are increasingly working with AI. AI has simplified tasks such as data analysis, but it has also raised challenges regarding content credibility. The threats of misinformation and disinformation are continuously growing. Consequently, along with basic digital literacy, AI literacy has become a societal necessity. These views were shared by AI and fact-checking expert, senior journalist Mr. Pratyush Ranjan. He was the chief speaker at the inaugural session of the masterclass and workshop on AI and Deepfake organized at MCU.
Mr. Pratyush Ranjan stated that AI is indeed a challenge to human intelligence, but human intelligence will always remain ahead. He encouraged students to adapt and prepare for their professional domains while working alongside AI. During the session, he discussed topics such as working on news stories using digital tools, streamlining newsroom workflows, content planning and distribution, and data analysis. He also introduced students to various fact-checking and AI tools.

Addressing the participants, the university’s Chancellor, Vijay Manohar Tiwari, noted that the arrival of AI in media newsrooms has significantly transformed the industry. Journalists must understand and adapt to these changes. A few decades ago, proofreading in journalism focused on language and spelling; today, AI intervention has permeated the entire news industry. Significant work is ongoing in AI and fact-checking within media.
In the second session of the workshop, PTI Chief Sub-Editor Lalit Gaurav and Ashisha Singh Rajput taught students how to detect AI-generated fake content. They introduced multiple fact-checking tools and demonstrated their usage. Through examples, they familiarized students with the working methodology of the PTI Fact-Checking Unit. These sessions were primarily hands-on. Students used laptops, tablets, and smartphones to practice using various fact-checking tools.
The inaugural session was conducted by Professor Pavitra Srivastava, Head of the Department of Advertising and Public Relations, who also expressed gratitude to the experts. University Registrar Professor P. Shashikala, along with all faculty members and students, were present on the occasion.
