AI should empower creators, not work against their interests: Murugan

CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: New Delhi. Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L. Murugan has said the development of artificial intelligence, or AI, should be such that it empowers creators and artists, rather than working against their interests. He stressed the need to protect the rights and interests of artists amid the growing use of AI in the creative sector.

Murugan said technology is changing rapidly and its impact is also being felt in films, music, broadcasting and other creative fields. In such a situation, he said, it is necessary to maintain a balance between the use of AI and creative works, so that creators can also get new opportunities along with technological progress. He said AI should be seen as a tool to enhance the capabilities of creators, rather than as an alternative to them. For this, he said, there is a need for clear arrangements on issues related to copyright, remuneration and the appropriate use of creative content.

Emphasising the need for responsible use of technology in the creative industry, the Union minister said the future AI framework should be one in which the rights of artists and creators are protected along with innovation.
