CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Under the leadership of Executive Director Ajay Singh, AIIMS Bhopal is reaching new heights in innovation, research, and education. Continuing this trajectory, AIIMS Bhopal has been awarded an ICMR Intermediate Grant for research on Early Childhood Development (ECD) in “at-risk” children.

The research project focuses on understanding the impact of early biological and psychological experiences on brain development and addressing associated challenges. Key factors such as malnutrition, deficiencies in iron and iodine, lack of cognitive stimulation, and maternal depression will be studied, all of which significantly hinder child development.

Highlighting the importance of the research, Director Singh stated, “This study reflects AIIMS Bhopal’s commitment to addressing critical issues affecting the development of vulnerable children. Our aim is to develop effective solutions to help children reach their full potential and enhance child development and public health.”

The project will be led by Associate Professor Deepti Dabar from the Department of Community and Family Medicine, with co-investigators Pankaj Prasad, Anindo Majumdar, Priya Gogia, Roshan Sutar, Anuradha Kushwah, and Ram Ratan.

The research aims to analyze challenges in ECD and nutrition programs across rural, urban, and tribal regions of Madhya Pradesh. It will focus on developing effective models to support “at-risk” children, such as those with low birth weight or from disadvantaged backgrounds. This project, operating in Bhopal and Chhindwara districts, has been granted ₹2.5 crore by ICMR.

The study further strengthens AIIMS Bhopal’s role in improving child development and public health outcomes.
