CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Under the guidance of AIIMS Bhopal Executive Director Dr. Ajay Singh, the Department of Pharmacology at AIIMS Bhopal organized a student seminar on the topic “Drugs of Abuse” in collaboration with the Departments of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology (FMT) and Psychiatry. The objective of this initiative was to educate students and raise awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse. A unique feature of the seminar was that undergraduate students delivered presentations in pairs on various subtopics.
Topics covered included definitions and terminology, nicotine, cannabinoids, amphetamines, cocaine, hallucinogens, inhalants and vaping, caffeine, and principles of deaddiction. The event was coordinated by Additional Professor Dr. Shubham Atal from the Pharmacology Department and witnessed active participation from faculty members, senior and junior residents, and MBBS students.
The presentations were evaluated by a three-member jury of senior faculty. The first prize was awarded to Mayank and Charvak, the second prize to Anchit and Krish, and the third prize to Yuvika and Suzan. An engaging and interactive quiz was also conducted by the students, making the event more impactful.
The presentation mentors and evaluators included Dr. Balkrishna S, Dr. Ratinder Jhaj, Dr. Shilpa N. Kaure, Dr. Ajay Kumar Shukla, Dr. Ahmad Najmi, Dr. Soumya Singh, and Dr. Florence Joy from the Pharmacology Department. Distinguished guests such as Prof. Jayanti Yadav (FMT), Additional Professor Dr. Atul Keche, and Assistant Professor Dr. Tanmay Joshi (Psychiatry) also graced the event and shared their valuable insights on the issue of substance abuse.
On the occasion, Prof. Singh remarked, “Raising awareness about addiction is essential for a healthy society. Educating students on its harmful effects not only empowers them to make better decisions but also enables them to spread awareness among others.”
