CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Under the guidance of Executive Director Ajay Singh, AIIMS Bhopal has once again proven its excellence in medical research and innovation.

PhD scholars from AIIMS Bhopal presented their groundbreaking research at APPICON 2024 (Association of Physiologists and Pharmacologists of India Conference) held in Chennai.

A key highlight was a study by Director Rahul Gaur, showcasing an innovative, non-invasive therapeutic approach for managing chronic low back pain using Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS). Conducted under the mentorship of Directors Santosh Wakode, Varun Malhotra, and Sophia Mudda, the case study demonstrated significant pain reduction, improved heart rate variability, and enhanced cognitive performance (reduced P300 latency) among patients.

Another noteworthy presentation was by Tanusha Pathak, which evaluated sleep, anxiety, and quality of life in PCOS phenotypes (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome). Conducted under the mentorship of Sophia Mudda and Santosh Wakode, the study revealed significant psychological and quality-of-life differences across PCOS phenotypes. Severe phenotypes (A and B) showed poorer outcomes, while phenotype D exhibited the best results. The research emphasized the need for phenotype-specific management and the inclusion of mental health care in PCOS treatment.

Highlighting the significance of the conference, Prof. Singh stated, “This is a moment of pride for AIIMS Bhopal. Our students and faculty are constantly pushing the boundaries of knowledge and innovation, addressing some of the most complex challenges in healthcare. APPICON 2024 served as a platform to showcase our commitment to advancing science and improving patient care.”
