Recently, Dr. Raghvendra Kumar Vidua, Professor of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology at AIIMS Bhopal, was honored for promoting ethical and sensitive practices in examining sexual assault victims. This recognition was awarded during a workshop organized at King George’s Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow. The workshop was attended by over 200 healthcare professionals, including experts in forensic science, gynecology, psychiatry, and other specialties.
Executive Director Prof. Ajay Singh congratulated Dr. Vidua on this remarkable achievement. He said, “Dr. Vidua’s contributions are instrumental in helping healthcare professionals understand the importance of ethics and sensitivity. This ensures that sexual assault victims receive respectful and dignified care. Such initiatives will serve as a source of inspiration for other institutions and strengthen the healthcare sector in our country.”
During the workshop, Dr. Vidua discussed the ethical and legal aspects of managing sexual assault cases. He emphasized the importance of confidentiality, privacy, autonomy, and dignity of the victims. Dr. Vidua highlighted the need to safeguard victims’ information, respect them during examinations, and honor their decision-making rights. He also shared insights into the guidelines provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, protocols established by the World Health Organization, and landmark judgments by the Supreme Court of India.
