CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: AIIMS Bhopal’s Dr. Rekha Lalwani Secures Patent for Brain Sectioning Device
AIIMS Bhopal’s Executive Director Ajay Singh is fostering a culture of academic excellence and knowledge exchange within the institution. Recently, Dr. Rekha Lalwani, Professor, Department of Anatomy, was granted a patent (Patent No. 562575) for her innovative invention – the Serial Section Cutter for Human Cadaveric Brain Slicing.
This innovation marks a significant advancement in medical education, forensic studies, and neurosurgical training. The Serial Section Cutter revolutionizes brain sectioning by addressing the challenges associated with traditional slicing methods. The gelatinous texture and slipperiness of a fresh brain, even after formalin fixation, often result in inconsistent sections. Dr. Lalwani’s device ensures uniform and precise coronal slicing, enhancing consistency, efficiency, and ease of use in anatomical, pathological, and forensic examinations.
The cutter features a structured blade assembly frame and an elevated holder design, providing better control, reducing tissue distortion, and minimizing manual effort. Made from surgical-grade steel, the device is durable, autoclavable, and highly effective for medical training and research.
Highlighting this remarkable achievement, Executive Director Ajay Singh stated:
“Dr. Rekha Lalwani’s innovative invention reflects AIIMS Bhopal’s commitment to medical research and technological advancements. This patented device will play a crucial role in enhancing the precision of anatomical studies, forensic investigations, and neurosurgical training. Such innovations reaffirm our institution’s dedication to academic excellence and impactful scientific contributions.”
Dr. Lalwani’s invention is set to bring a revolutionary transformation in medical education, forensic pathology, and neurosurgery. It provides a standardized, precise, and efficient approach to brain sectioning, streamlining research, diagnosis, and treatment processes in these critical fields. This achievement further strengthens AIIMS Bhopal’s position as a leading center for medical research and innovation.
