CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal : AIIMS Bhopal has achieved another significant milestone in the field of medical services. The institute has successfully performed a “top surgery” for a transman for the first time. This achievement marks an important step toward strengthening gender-affirming healthcare services in Central India. The surgery was conducted by AIIMS Bhopal’s multidisciplinary medical team.

The procedure utilized the inferior pedicle technique, which involves removing excess breast tissue while preserving the nipple-areola complex. This not only provided the patient with medical relief but also allowed them to live their true identity with dignity. With this success, AIIMS Bhopal has opened a new chapter in transgender healthcare services. In the coming months, several other gender-affirmative surgeries, including both top and bottom surgeries, are planned at the institute. This initiative reflects the institution’s commitment to inclusive, sensitive, and scientifically advanced medical care.

The effort also included collaboration with community organizations that worked alongside the medical team to ensure awareness and comprehensive care for the transgender community. The nodal officer of AIIMS Bhopal’s Transgender Health Clinic stated, “The needs of transmen in our country are often less recognized compared to transwomen. Bias and social stigma remain significant challenges. We need awareness, more research, and culturally sensitive medical protocols that include the voices of people with lived experiences.”

This pioneering step by AIIMS Bhopal not only strengthens medical support for the transgender community but also inspires social acceptance and inclusivity.
