Under the guidance of AIIMS Bhopal’s Executive Director Ajay Singh, the Department of Pediatrics conducted various awareness programs as part of World Kidney Week. The event featured painting, dance, and fashion show activities for children, along with a quiz competition for healthcare workers, which saw enthusiastic participation from senior residents, junior residents, and nursing officers. Around 150 participants, including all faculty members of the Pediatrics Department, attended the event, which was inaugurated by Ajay Singh.

Raising Awareness on Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)

In his inaugural speech, Ajay Singh highlighted that one in ten people worldwide suffers from chronic kidney disease (CKD) in some form. He emphasized that early detection is crucial for kidney health preservation.

Dr. Shikha Malik, Head of the Pediatrics Department, spoke about the department’s efforts towards kidney health awareness. She stated that the Pediatrics Department is committed to the diagnosis and treatment of children, ensuring them a better quality of life.

Parents Share Their Journeys

During the event, parents of children suffering from kidney diseases shared their experiences.

One parent, whose daughter suffered from end-stage kidney disease, narrated their struggles during dialysis and how they overcame their fears to continue their fight.

Another parent, whose child had Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS), spoke about the challenges faced during plasma exchange therapy and how their child has now fully recovered.

These personal accounts motivated and inspired other parents present at the conclave.

The Role of Parental Support Groups

Dr. Girish Chandra Bhatt, an expert from the Pediatric Nephrology Division, highlighted the importance of parental support groups for families dealing with kidney diseases. He explained how these groups provide emotional support and crucial information, helping parents manage stress and share their concerns. Success stories of treatments boost parents’ confidence in navigating these health challenges.

Event Conclusion

Among the dignitaries present were Shashank Purwar (Acting Medical Superintendent), Mahesh Maheshwari, Bhavana Dhingra, and Kirti Swarnkar. The event concluded with Amber Kumar, who expressed gratitude to all participants and the organizing committee. He emphasized that such programs play a vital role in spreading kidney health awareness in the community.
