CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Department of Microbiology at AIIMS Bhopal organized a one-day hands-on training session on Line Probe Assay (LPA) for the rapid diagnosis of Non-Tuberculous Mycobacteria (NTM). Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal, Professor Ajay Singh, praised the initiative, stating, “We are proud to host this important training workshop, aligning with our commitment to academic excellence and scientific research at our institution. Rapid identification and differentiation of Non-Tuberculous Mycobacteria are crucial for providing patients with prompt and accurate treatment. We thank the Science and Engineering Research Board for enabling this training program, which not only strengthens our academic and research capabilities but also plays a vital role in advancing public health in India.”

This training was conducted under the Social Scientific Responsibility (SSR) initiative, funded by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The workshop’s lead speaker and Head of the Microbiology Department, Professor Debashish Biswas, shared key insights on the challenges of identifying and diagnosing NTM and expressed his commitment to advancing the department’s diagnostic capabilities. Under his guidance, the department has implemented new techniques for the rapid and accurate diagnosis of NTM, facilitating faster patient treatment.

Dr. Anand Maurya introduced the workshop with an in-depth overview of NTM and the use of LPA, a crucial tool for the rapid detection of NTM. Soumya Dhawan from the Intermediate Reference Laboratory, Bhopal, presented recommendations from the National TB Elimination Program (NTEP), outlining essential guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of NTM. The workshop was attended by Acting Medical Superintendent Prof. Shashank Purwar, along with other faculty members, medical students, researchers, and staff, whose support and presence made the event even more impactful.

Focused on the Line Probe Assay (LPA), a molecular diagnostic technique used for the rapid identification and separation of NTM, this advanced technology aids in diagnosing mycobacterial infections that are resistant to traditional treatments and difficult to detect using conventional methods. This event is part of AIIMS Bhopal’s ongoing efforts to promote excellence in research, enhance diagnostic techniques, and provide high-quality education to healthcare professionals.
