CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Under the guidance of AIIMS Bhopal’s Executive Director, Dr. Ajay Singh, a two-day orientation program on the management of Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) was organized at AIIMS Bhopal to enhance the skills of medical officers in Madhya Pradesh. The program included two batches, each consisting of 40 medical officers from across the state.
In his inaugural address, Prof. Singh highlighted the importance of this initiative, stating, “This sensitization program will help prevent severe acute malnutrition from birth and equip our medical officers with the necessary skills and knowledge to tackle malnutrition effectively.”
The technical sessions were led by pediatric experts, including Prof. Bhavana Dhingra, Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, and Dr. Priya Gogia, Assistant Professor in the same department. Their sessions provided insights into key management protocols, protocol-based treatment strategies, and need-based referral processes for SAM children admitted to Nutrition Rehabilitation Centers (NRCs).
Program Coordinator Indresh Kumar presented an overview of the program’s objectives, the current status of SAM in Madhya Pradesh, and the operational framework of SAM management programs in the state.
This orientation program is being coordinated by the Department of Pediatrics at AIIMS Bhopal, under the aegis of the Regional Nutrition Rehabilitation Resource and Training Center of Excellence, in collaboration with the Madhya Pradesh State Health Mission.
