CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: AIIMS Bhopal’s Executive Director, Ajay Singh, consistently fosters a culture of academic excellence and knowledge-sharing among faculty members and students. Inspired by Prof. Singh, the faculty at AIIMS Bhopal has been excelling in various research initiatives. Recently, AIIMS Bhopal faculty actively participated in the national conference titled “Geriatric Perspectives in Physiology: Unlocking the Secrets of Longevity” held at Chirayu Medical College & Hospital, Bhopal.
This conference was organized in collaboration with the Physiological Society of India (PSI) and the Association of Physiologists and Pharmacologists of India (APPI). The objective of the event was to delve into various aspects of gerontology, including physical, clinical, psychological, and lifestyle-related challenges.
AIIMS Bhopal’s Dean (Research), Rehan-Ul-Haq, participated as the Chief Guest. He emphasized the importance of lifestyle modifications to promote healthy aging, including music therapy, community living, plant-based diets, and daily physical activity. He also discussed the possibility of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between AIIMS Bhopal and Chirayu Medical College to foster research and collaboration in these areas.
At the conference, AIIMS Bhopal’s Associate Professor of Physiology, Varun Malhotra, conducted a meditation session inspired by the Yogoda Satsanga Society (YSS), which saw participation from over 310 attendees. Additionally, Associate Professor Dr. Ragini Srivastava delivered a lecture on “Physiology of Aging,” highlighting aging theories and the critical role of oxidative stress. Dr. Santosh Wakode, Professor and Head of the Department of Physiology, chaired a session where experts discussed innovative theories and practical approaches related to geriatrics and longevity.
Director Singh emphasized the significance of the conference, stating, “This national conference provides a critical platform for dialogue on aging and longevity. It helps us understand that longevity is not limited to physical health but is deeply interconnected with mental and lifestyle aspects. At AIIMS Bhopal, we are committed to advancing research and disseminating knowledge that enables society to lead healthier and more balanced lives.”
