CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Under the guidance of AIIMS Bhopal’s Executive Director, Ajay Singh, the ENT department is organizing an orientation and training program for ENT specialists and audiologists across Madhya Pradesh. This initiative is being conducted under the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) of the National Health Mission (NHM), aiming to facilitate newborn hearing screening through advanced audiological tests like Brainstem Evoked Response Audiometry (BERA).

This four-day program, running until January 31, 2025, at AIIMS Bhopal, will train 140 participants from 51 districts of Madhya Pradesh. The objective is to equip healthcare professionals with the necessary skills for newborn hearing screening, ensuring timely diagnosis and management of hearing loss.

Professor Singh emphasized the significance of this program, stating, “This training is a crucial step toward capacity building in the state, bringing patient care closer to the community. Early detection of hearing loss in newborns is vital for timely intervention, which can significantly improve their quality of life. I believe this initiative will help establish newborn hearing screening services in Madhya Pradesh and reduce delays in diagnosis and management.”

The training program includes comprehensive modules such as lectures, live demonstrations, case-based discussions, and interactive Q&A sessions. The first batch of participants has already appreciated the practical approach and relevance of the program.

Head of the ENT department, Professor Aparna Chavan, highlighted the uniqueness of this initiative, stating, “While our department regularly conducts training programs, this is the first time we are making such a focused and large-scale effort on newborn hearing screening.” Program coordinator Vikas Gupta stressed the importance of early diagnosis, noting, “Delays in diagnosing hearing loss in newborns and children can impact their rehabilitation and limit access to government schemes.”

This program is being conducted by distinguished faculty members, including Anjan K. Sahu, Gankalyan Behera, Shaila Sidam, Utkal P. Mishra, and audiologist speech-language pathologists Sunny Khurana, Aman Yadav, Nishant, and Muskan.
