CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Professor (Dr.) Ajay Singh, the Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal, consistently encourages his doctors to take on new challenges. One such challenge was the removal of a pancreatic cancer tumor from a 55-year-old patient. Recently, this patient, a local resident, had been suffering from severe upper abdominal pain and jaundice for the past six months. Despite seeking help from other medical institutions, he found no relief. He eventually came to the medical gastroenterology OPD at AIIMS Bhopal, where tests revealed he had pancreatic cancer. A stenting procedure was performed to alleviate his symptoms and unblock the bile duct.
Once his condition stabilized, the patient was referred to the surgical oncology department. After extensive tests confirmed that the tumor could be surgically removed, Dr. Nilesh Srivastava and his team prepared for the Whipple procedure to improve the patient’s chances of recovery. The surgery lasted for eight hours and was successfully completed through the combined efforts of the surgical and anesthesia teams, including the contribution of Dr. Shikha Jain. Post-operation, the patient received excellent care in the surgical ICU, leading to a complication-free recovery.
Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Singh congratulated the entire team on this achievement, stating, “This success symbolizes our unwavering commitment to addressing the healthcare needs of our society. Every successful surgery represents hope for our patients and their families. At AIIMS Bhopal, we are dedicated to being a beacon of healing and continually strive to set new standards of medical excellence. I commend the hard work and dedication of our entire team that made this accomplishment possible.”
Pancreatic cancer is known for its aggressiveness, and early detection is crucial for effective management. The Whipple procedure, used to remove the tumor, is a complex surgical operation. Over the past year, AIIMS Bhopal has successfully treated 16 patients with pancreatic cancer, reflecting the institute’s advanced medical services and commitment to providing life-saving treatment for complex conditions.
