Recently, Fatima Hasan, a second-year postgraduate (MD) student from the Department of Community & Family Medicine, was awarded the ICMR PG Thesis Grant for her research study titled:

“Evaluation of Social Security Schemes for the Elderly in Bhopal – A Mixed Methods Study.”

Research Supervision and Objectives

This research is being conducted under the guidance of Professor Sanjeev Kumar (Department of Community & Family Medicine), with Professor Abhijit P. Pakhare and Assistant Professor M. Sukumar (Department of General Medicine) as co-supervisors.

The study aims to evaluate the accessibility, effectiveness, and impact of social security schemes available for the elderly population in Bhopal.

The research, based on mixed methods, will:

Assess awareness, utilization, and impact of social security schemes among the urban elderly in Bhopal.

Analyze how these schemes influence health-related quality of life for beneficiaries.

Examine challenges faced by both beneficiaries and service providers in scheme implementation.

Estimate the adoption rate of these schemes among the elderly and evaluate their awareness of associated health benefits.

Highlight trust levels, barriers, and supportive factors among beneficiaries, their families, and healthcare workers.
