Recently, Professor Mahesh Maheshwari from the Department of Pediatrics at AIIMS Bhopal delivered a keynote lecture on “Early (Abnormal) Puberty in Girls – A Growing Concern” at the 55th Annual State Conference MP-PEDICON, organized by the Madhya Pradesh Indian Academy of Pediatrics (MPIAP).
In his lecture, Prof. Maheshwari highlighted the increasing trend of puberty in girls occurring before the normal age of 8 years. Citing findings from a recent systematic review and meta-analysis published in JAMA, he explained that the age of puberty onset is decreasing by three months every decade.
Dr. Maheshwari also discussed how lifestyle habits like stress, insufficient sleep, excessive mobile usage, junk food consumption, and obesity are exacerbating this issue.
At the conference, Prof. Mahesh Maheshwari was honored with the prestigious Prof. K.K. Kaul Gold Medal, presented by Prof. K.K. Kaul and Padma Shri Pukhraj Bafna. He was also elected as the President of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics, Madhya Pradesh Chapter (MPIAP).
Additionally, Harshita S. won the first prize in the SR/Faculty Award Competition, while Pooja Phulgirkar secured the first prize in the Poster Presentation Competition.
Congratulating Dr. Maheshwari on his achievements, Prof. Singh remarked, “Mahesh Maheshwari’s accomplishments reflect AIIMS Bhopal’s commitment to healthcare and academic excellence. His contributions to pediatric endocrinology and child health are commendable. I am confident that under his leadership, MPIAP will elevate the standard of pediatric care in Madhya Pradesh.”
Head of the Pediatrics Department, Shikha Malik, also extended her best wishes and encouraged Maheshwari to continue enhancing care for children suffering from Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus and other pediatric endocrine disorders.
