CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: AIIMS Bhopal Students Recognized for Outstanding Research in Infectious Disease Diagnosis and Surveillance

Under the leadership of Executive Director Ajay Singh, AIIMS Bhopal has been making significant strides in promoting academic excellence and research innovation. In this pursuit, two AIIMS Bhopal students have been honored for their remarkable contributions to infectious disease diagnosis and surveillance research.

Recognition for Dengue Disease Prognosis Research

Krish Kaushal, a second-year MBBS student and a recipient of the Intramural Students Research Grant, received the Best Poster Award in the Student Category for his research titled:

“On-Site Viral Load Implication for Prognosis of Dengue Disease Using Mobile Phone: A Semi-Quantitative Test Based on NS1 Image Analysis.”

This research was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Rashmi Chaudhary, Prof. Jagat R. Kanwar, and Dr. Ashish Kumar Yadav. The study focuses on enhancing dengue diagnosis using mobile imaging and color analysis techniques, enabling accurate and rapid NS1 antigen level assessments. This method facilitates the early identification of severe dengue cases, ensuring efficient resource utilization in disease management.

International Recognition for SARS-CoV-2 Surveillance Research

In another significant achievement, Vrushali D. Patil received the “Prof. Noorul Islam Award” for Best Oral Presentation at the International Academy of Biomedical Sciences Conference (IABSCON) 2025.

Her research, titled “Continuous Surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 in Stool and Sewage: Genomic Trends and Implications for Outbreak Prevention,” was conducted under the mentorship of Dr. Rashmi Chaudhary, Prof. Jagat R. Kanwar (AIIMS Bhopal), and Dr. Harjeet Singh Mann (State Virology Lab, GMC Bhopal). The study was funded by the Intramural Research Grant, AIIMS Bhopal, and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

The research concluded that sewage surveillance serves as an early warning system, capable of detecting asymptomatic viral transmission and allowing public health officials to take preventive action before major outbreaks occur.

Institutional Support for Research and Innovation

Applauding these achievements, Director Ajay Singh stated:

“Encouraging young researchers is crucial for advancing medical science and public health. The innovative work of Krish Kaushal and Vrushali D. Patil showcases the power of research in tackling infectious diseases. AIIMS Bhopal remains committed to supporting impactful research through its intramural funding programs.”
