CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: AIIMS Bhopal’s Executive Director, Ajay Singh, consistently fosters a culture of academic excellence and knowledge-sharing among faculty and students. Inspired by Prof. Singh, faculty members are excelling in various research projects, earning recognition and accolades from national and international platforms. Recently, Varun Malhotra and his team from AIIMS Bhopal were honored with the prestigious Institute of Scholars (InSc) Research Excellence Award 2024 for their outstanding research contribution in the field of physiology. This award recognizes their significant contributions, and their research was published in the Mymensingh Medical Journal (July 2024).
Congratulating the team on this remarkable achievement, Director Singh said, “The InSc Research Excellence Award 2024 is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our researchers. The recognition of Malhotra and his team’s study highlights the importance of understanding the effects of traditional practices like Kapalbhati Pranayama alongside modern exercise techniques. We are committed to fostering a research environment that continually promotes innovation and excellence.”
The research, conducted at AIIMS Bhopal, was titled “Comparative Analysis of the Effects of Exercise and Kapalbhati Pranayama on Heart Rate Variability and Brain Wave Activity.” It found that both methods enhanced brain activity, with a more profound impact from Kapalbhati. Additionally, exercise reduced heart rate variability, whereas the effect of Kapalbhati was milder. This study was a collaborative effort by Varun Malhotra, Rakesh Jivane, and Frederico Sidral-Filho, whose collective expertise played a crucial role in its success.
