CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Under the guidance of Executive Director Prof. Ajai Singh, AIIMS Bhopal has undertaken a historic initiative to make the institute fully accessible and inclusive for Divyangjan (persons with disabilities) and individuals with special needs. On 7th November 2023, the ‘DOST Campaign’ (DOST – Divyangjan-Oriented Structural Transformation) was officially launched. This initiative aligns with the spirit of the Government of India’s “Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan” and has become a flagship campaign of AIIMS Bhopal.
The campaign is being implemented in five phases across the entire campus—including the hospital, medical college, and hostels—focusing on infrastructure transformation.
In Phase 1, selected toilets were made Divyangjan-friendly.
Phase 2 included the installation of ramps and grab bars.
The campaign has now entered Phase 3, which involves directional signage, parking signs, and ground markings.
So far, ramps and accessible toilets have been constructed in wards, lecture theatres, nursing and medical college buildings, transit and girls’ hostels. These modifications, made as per CPWD (Central Public Works Department) standards, now allow wheelchair users to move freely without obstacles.
Prof. Ajai Singh remarked, “The DOST campaign is not just about construction; it symbolizes our core values of inclusion, compassion, and dignity.”
This initiative not only enhances convenience for Divyangjan but also fosters self-reliance and a sense of respect.
