Faculty members, officers, residents, nursing staff, and other employees of AIIMS participated in this program.
Prof. Singh stated that in the past two years, we have made unprecedented progress. This progress is not only in patient care but also in the fields of education and research. Speaking of patients, where there were only 376,000 patients in the OPD two years ago, this number has increased to 1,050,000. Major surgeries have seen a 92% increase, while minor surgeries have grown by 300%. Due to our no-refusal policy in trauma and emergency, there has been a 110% increase in patients, while the number of admitted patients has increased by 180%. The number of beneficiaries under the Ayushman scheme has also surged by 250%.
To facilitate students, AIIMS’ central library now offers hard copies of books and e-books, including 800 new e-journals. These books include medical and non-medical texts in both Hindi and English. Prof. Singh mentioned that the annual expenditure on the library, which was INR 6.5 million in 2022, has increased to INR 35 million. The number of Hindi books, which used to be only 1,200, has now increased to 11,670. The seating capacity for students in the library has increased from 250 to 600. Additionally, the number of seats in the BSc Nursing program has increased from 75 to 90. In PG courses, MD/MS seats have increased from 103 to 165, DM/MCh seats from 30 to 75, and PG Nursing seats from 28 to 42.
Prof. Singh informed that a unique initiative has been started for UG research. Eighteen UG students from the institute have participated in various national conferences, and 15 UG students have been selected for research abroad. In the Student Wellness Center at AIIMS Bhopal, 714 students consulted in one year.
Prof. Singh stated that we will soon start heart and lung transplants. In addition, AIIMS has prepared an SOP for ‘One State One Health,’ under which efforts are being made to provide AIIMS-level treatment across the entire state. Two robots worth INR 600 million are also being purchased soon, which will help in performing complex operations. Moreover, AIIMS is running several other programs for patient welfare, ensuring that no one leaves without treatment.
Prof. Singh emphasized that we should not rest on these achievements but set new goals and strive to achieve them with renewed energy and enthusiasm. AIIMS will set new standards in patient care and lay the foundation for a healthy India.
