CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Executive Professor Ajay Singh of AIIMS constantly encourages his doctors to take on new challenges. One such challenge was a tumor on a patient’s face, the size of a football. Recently, AIIMS performed a complex surgery on a patient with a tumor of the same size on the face. The tumor was located beneath the main facial nerve and its five auxiliary branches, and its size was continuously increasing, posing risks of the patient’s eye closing and the nerves rupturing. Given the severity of the situation, AIIMS specialists successfully completed a complicated surgery lasting over 6 hours, giving the patient a new lease on life.

Professor Dr. Manish Swarnakar from the General Surgery Department explained that at first glance, it appeared to be a parotid tumor. A histopathological examination is now being conducted. Dr. Manish mentioned that the patient had a massive tumor (12 × 8 × 12 cm) in the right parotid gland. The tumor started spreading from the lower part of the face, putting pressure on the facial nerve and its five branches. These nerves collectively control facial expressions, as well as the muscles of the eyes, lips, forehead, ears, and nose. In this type of surgery, preserving the facial nerve and its branches was a significant challenge. Any small mistake could have resulted in the loss of control over the eyes, ears, lips, and other small facial muscles. The surgical team included Dr. Manish Swarnakar, Dr. Murat Singh, Dr. Harsh Vaidya, and anesthetist Dr. Sandeep.

Dr. Ajay Singh of AIIMS stated that this surgery reflects the commitment of the General Surgery Department to provide advanced and precise care, ensuring the best outcomes for patients even in the most challenging situations.
