CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: At a state-level workshop held at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Good Governance and Policy Analysis, Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh, Anurag Jain, emphasized the importance of public participation in water conservation and management. He stated that 68% of households in the state already have access to piped water, and by 2026, every home will have water supply.
The Chief Secretary said that drinking water is a top priority and that single-village schemes should be operated by local residents. He noted that women’s participation under the Jal Jeevan Mission has led to a reduction in complaints. He described the 300 km water journey led by “Jal Sahelis” in Bundelkhand as inspirational and recommended that such initiatives be implemented statewide.
Referring to his tenure in Mandsaur, Anurag Jain shared that over 670 ponds were constructed through public participation. The Jal Ganga Program has prioritized well recharge and water use efficiency.
PHE Principal Secretary P. Narahari stated that 85% of single-village schemes have been completed and that under multi-village schemes, every household will have water supply by 2026. Women are being entrusted with Operation & Maintenance (O&M) responsibilities in water management.
Dr. Sanjay Singh, coordinator of the Jal Jan Jodo Abhiyan, highlighted the need to develop a strong cadre for water resource management. The program witnessed participation from numerous officials, social organizations, and rural representatives.
