CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Baloch Liberation Army Fighters Shake Pakistan’s Federal Government Amid Escalating Violence in Balochistan
Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) fighters have sent shockwaves through Pakistan’s federal government, intensifying their direct armed resistance in the volatile Balochistan province. Currently, Balochistan is witnessing some of the worst unrest in the country, with two separate attacks—one targeting bus passengers and the other a civilian home—leaving 13 people dead amid a rapidly deteriorating law and order situation.
Fatal Attacks in Gwadar and Sohbatpur
According to The News International, a senior police official, Yousuf Banghar, reported that six bus passengers were shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Gwadar. In a separate incident, seven members of a family were killed in Sohbatpur when armed attackers opened fire inside their home.
SHO Khalid Dashti of Jiwani Police Station confirmed that all the deceased were transported to Pasni Hospital, and that the victims included a woman and three children, indicating the indiscriminate nature of the violence.
PM Shehbaz Sharif Condemns Gwadar Attack
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the Gwadar incident and called for urgent action. The region has already seen a spike in deadly attacks, including last week’s killings of eight individuals (four laborers and four police personnel) in Kalat and Nushki districts.
Ongoing Wave of Terror: Explosions, Abductions, and Hostilities
Recently, an explosion on the Nushki-Dalbandin Highway targeted a paramilitary convoy, killing at least five people, including three Frontier Corps (FC) soldiers.
In a previous high-profile incident, BLA fighters blew up a railway track, took passengers of the Jaffer Express hostage, and challenged the authority of the federal government. The government claimed that a complex rescue operation led to the killing of 33 militants and the rescue of all hostages.
Mounting Challenges for Pakistan’s Internal Security
These escalating attacks underscore the growing influence and boldness of the Baloch fighters, who are relentlessly targeting state symbols and civilians alike, worsening the instability in Balochistan. The federal government’s efforts to contain the rebellion face significant setbacks, with BLA operations becoming increasingly coordinated and deadly.
