CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Delhi: New Delhi. All India Students’ Association (AISA) national president Neha Bora is to appear on Wednesday before the Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) at Mandir Marg in Delhi. She has been asked to furnish a personal bond of Rs 10,000 and one surety to maintain peace. If she refuses to furnish the bond, a bailable warrant is likely to be issued against her. However, the decision to issue a warrant will depend on the court proceedings.

Refused to furnish bond twice

Neha Bora has earlier refused to furnish a peace bond. After a notice was issued by Delhi Police, she challenged it in the Delhi High Court. On 23 October, the High Court dismissed her petition but directed that all documents related to the allegations made by police be provided to her. The court also asked the SEM to consider under what circumstances a demand to furnish a bond can be made at the initial stage of an inquiry.

Police provided relevant documents

After the High Court order, Neha Bora appeared before the SEM on 24 October. During that appearance, police provided the relevant documents to her lawyer, and time until 29 October was given to file a reply. Bora had publicly said that she would not sign the peace bond. Her appearance and stand on the bond will now be significant in the hearing scheduled for 28 October.

Case linked to protests

The action is related to protests in Delhi against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Police claim there was apprehension that some incidents could disturb public peace. Neha Bora, meanwhile, has questioned the police action and described it as a matter linked to the right to peaceful protest. No final decision has been taken on the allegations.
