Lucknow. Former Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai has apologised over the ruckus at the party office in Lucknow. He said that if his supporters misbehaved with anyone or used abusive language, he apologised for it with folded hands. He also made it clear that he would remain in the Congress and continue to work according to the responsibilities and directions given by the party leadership.

No regret over removal as state president

Ajay Rai said he had no regret over being removed from the post of state president. In politics, posts are not permanent, and remaining in a post or making changes is a decision of the party leadership, he said. He said that during more than three years of work as state president, he tried to remain among the people, raise their issues and stand with party workers.

He also rejected speculation about joining another party, saying he is a Congress worker and is not going anywhere after leaving the party. Praising Rahul Gandhi, he described him as a leader who struggles and reiterated his commitment to the party.

Dream of becoming MP from Varanasi

Ajay Rai said becoming an MP from Varanasi is his dream. Varanasi has been his political workplace, and he will continue to work for the party in the future as well. In the 2024 Lok Sabha election, he contested from the Varanasi seat against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He has now spoken of strengthening the party organisation and working according to the leadership’s instructions.

Dispute had taken place at Congress office

A dispute had broken out among party leaders and supporters during the charge-taking programme of new state president Aradhana Mishra ‘Mona’ at the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee office in Lucknow. Reports of pushing, shoving and sloganeering had emerged in the incident. After the dispute, questions were raised within the party about discipline and organisational coordination.

After Ajay Rai’s apology, attention will now be on what further steps the party leadership takes on this episode.
